Chesapeake & Ohio and Virginian Railway
Class K-4 and BA Berkshire Steam Locomotive    2-8-4
The C&O and Virginian 2-8-4 locomotives were known for dependable performance on "fast manifest freight and coal trains" in eastern flat lands, the Appalachian, Allegheny and Pocahontas coalfield regions.  A total of 90 C&O Kanawha type class K-4 by American Locomotive Company and Lima Locomotive Works, were dual purpose locomotives for freight and passenger service.    The Lima build of 5 Virginian class BA were nearly identical, used primarily in fast freight service with limited use on coal trains due to tonnage constraints by severe track grades.
Painted & Lettered as follows:
1.  C&O K-4 * ALCO 1943-1944 numbered 2700-2739 with Franklin precision reverse
gear, three main reservoirs under running boards, swinging style bell on
boiler front, whistle mounted on steam dome. C&O Tender 21-RG, a

                         box.  C&O Tender 21-RG, a capacity of 30 ton coal, 21,000 gallons
water.  Early version ALCO 1943-1944 with large air brake cylinder
mounted on tender frame, friction journal bearing 6 wheel Buckeye trucks.
3.  C&O K-4 * Last Lima build 1947, numbers 2750-2759, include ALCO reverse gear,

cylinders, friction journal bearing 6 wheel Buckeye trucks.
5.  Virginian Railway Class BA * Built by Lima 1946 numbered 500-509 with no build

different class of engines both steam and diesel such as the famous GS class Northerns, MT

NYC  COMMODORE  VANDERBILT  4-6-4
Painted & Lettered:      See the Reservation Form for more detail.
       ORIGINAL  Version  (Spoked Driver)
       REBUILT  Version  (Disk Driver)

J-1E Number 5344 (built in 1931 as just another 4-6-4) was just emerging from the West Albany Shops after a complete overhaul and this locomotive was selected as the subject to be streamlined. The rebuilding was completed on December 14, 1934 and Number 5344 emerged from the shops carrying the new streamlining with the name COMMODORE VANDERBILT painted on the side. While some referred to the streamlining as an "inverted bathtub", a number of ingenious features were present on the 4-6-4, including smoke lifters, a canvas partition between engine and tender and covers on the streamlined tender coal bunker that could be moved to load fuel. Mechanically the locomotive was unchanged and kept its spoked drivers.
