The most famous Pacific.
"A Perfectly Designed Steam Engine". 425 were built from
1914-1928 with many still in operation in 1956. The
other existing K-4S are now at

Unique among steam
engines. The "Cab Forward" design was brought about when the size of steam
power grew to the point
of almost choking the train crew to death in the high sierra snow sheds.
Although
born of necessity, they
were beautiful engines reaching their ultimate high point with the AC 7-12
series.
